Marketing is a huge subject but the basics are very simple.
These basics are most appropriate to the small and medium sized
company.
Marketing planning
You can only plan a journey when you know where you are and
where you want to go. The Marketing planning process should go
through an analysis of
- where the company is
- where it wants to go to
- why customers buy from it
- who the competitors are
The level of detail can vary hugely depending on the company
and its requirements. However these steps then enable structured
and measurable campaigns to be put in place to achieve the company
objectives (increasing sales, increasing margins etc)
Marketing Promotion
Proper marketing campaigns will be much more successful than
random advertising and is often no more expensive.
Marketing promotion is most effective when it uses a balanced
combination of a variety of methods. The combination that works
most effectively will vary from business to business, It is very
unlikely that a single method will be successful for the business.

This diagram gives an indication of some of the promotional
methods successful companies use.

Marketing material
Marketing material (sometimes called collateral) includes
web sites, brochures, datasheets and newsletters.
In all of these there are some key factors in success
- They must look professional. Professional appearance is necessary
but not the most important factor
- The content (messages and words) must attract attention and
provide valuable information to the reader - this is the most
important factor
- The structure - presenting the information in the best order
from the reader's perspective
- The material must be written with the reader in mind
We facilitate the production of high quality material by coordinating
all the necessary key skills.
