The High Court has issued an injunction against a company
preventing it from publishing any further misleading advertisements
in relation to data protection notification. Data Processing
Protection Corporation Limited, which has also operated by the
names Data Protection Corporation and Data Processing Protection
Corporation, has posed as an official body misleading many businesses
into believing that the notification fee is £95.
The fee to register with the Information Commissioner is £35.
The injunction, resulting from an application made by the
Office of Fair Trading, prevents any future advertisements that
mislead companies about notification costs. All Data Controllers
are legally obliged to notify their data processing to the Information
Commissioner and to notify any change in processing activities.
