SMEs are more likely to take on new staff than their big business
rivals, new research has revealed. The Manpower employment outlook
survey, which involved 2,500 responses, shows that a net 7% of
UK companies plan to recruit or have recruited in the first three
months of 2004.
For companies with more than 250 workers the figure drops
to 2%, but for medium-sized firms - with between 50 and 250 staff
- it rises to 11%. Even more surprisingly, numbers swell to 17%
for firms with fewer than 50 employees.
The results seem to chime with a growing number of studies
suggesting that SME bosses are in bullish mood.
