Most small businesses understand the need to protect computer
systems, yet many are still vulnerable because they fail to update
patches and firewalls. That's according to a new survey of 3,700
small businesses by Sophos software group, which revealed that
while 87% had anti-virus and spam systems in place, 63% did not
update them regularly.
"With new viruses able to spread around the internet
in a matter of hours, it is no longer effective to only apply
anti-virus updates on a daily or less frequent basis," said
a senior technology consultant at Sophos. "It's
obviously good that companies are deploying anti-virus protection,
but they are pouring their money down the drain if the protection
is not frequently updated."
