The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has warned businesses
to be aware of an invoicing scams filtering through from Europe
in which small businesses are tricked into paying for goods they
haven't ordered.
Several rogue firms in Switzerland, Austria and the Czech
Republic have been taking advantage of managers' summer holidays
and contacting businesses with 'urgent' invoices that junior
employees often mistakenly pay. By doing so, they sign the business
up to a contract that binds them to years of payment.
