The Freedom of Information Act 2000 came into force on 1st
January 2005. Under the new legislation, anyone can request access
to certain information held by the public sector and government
organisations. For example, a business hoping to tender for a
local authority contract may be keen to request certain information
from that organisation. Requests costing less than £450
(£600 for central government bodies) to answer can be granted
free of charge, with any request costing more than this subject
to a fee.
