The gap between the number of male and female entrepreneurs
in the UK has narrowed for the first time, according to the Global
Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM).
This is the clearest indication yet that the drive by PROWESS,
in close partnership with the DTI's Small Business Service (SBS),
to promote and support female enterprise is having a positive
and profound impact.
GEM is a robust and well respected annual indicator of changes
in entrepreneurial activity. It has found that the gap between
male and female entrepreneurial activity has narrowed significantly
from 42.9% of male entrepreneurial activity in 2003 to 46% of
male entrepreneurial activity in 2004.
